Timing Belt Replacement with Pickup & Delivery

Replace it on schedule, before it breaks. Your timing belt keeps the inside of your engine in perfect time, and on many engines a snapped belt means bent valves and major engine damage. We pick up your vehicle from your home or work, replace the belt at our offsite repair facility, check the tensioner and idler pulleys, and bring it back. If the water pump is driven by the timing belt, it is always part of your quote, so you only pay for that labor once.

Signs You Need a Timing Belt

When to Call a Mobile Mechanic About Your Timing Belt

Timing belts often break with little warning, so mileage and age matter more than symptoms. If any of these sound like your vehicle, call or text us and we'll tell you where you stand.

60,000 to 105,000 miles

Most timing belts are due somewhere in this range, or after a set number of years. Check your owner's manual or ask us.

Unknown service history

Bought a used car with no records? If you can't prove the belt was changed, it's safest to treat it as due.

Ticking or whining

A ticking, slapping or whining noise from the front of the engine can point to a worn belt, tensioner or idler pulley.

Leaks near the timing cover

Oil from a cam or crank seal, or coolant from the water pump, soaks the belt and makes it fail early.

Rough running or check engine light

A belt that has stretched or jumped a tooth can throw off engine timing, causing misfires, a rough idle or a warning light.

Cranks but won't start

If the engine suddenly quit and now cranks without starting, the belt may have broken. Don't keep trying to start it.

What's Included

A New Timing Belt, Plus the Parts It Depends On

The timing belt connects the crankshaft to the camshafts so the valves open and close at exactly the right moment. On an interference engine, the valves and pistons share the same space, and if the belt breaks they collide. A timing belt replacement on schedule costs far less than the engine repair that can follow a broken one.

Because the belt sits behind several covers, the tensioner, idler pulleys and, on many engines, the water pump are all exposed during the job. Replacing worn parts while everything is apart saves you paying for the same labor again later. You'll get an upfront quote, with options, before any work begins.

Interval & engine check

We confirm your engine's recommended interval, whether it uses a belt or chain, and whether it's an interference engine.

Quality replacement belt

We install an OE-grade timing belt and set and double-check the engine's timing to factory specifications.

Tensioner & idler pulleys

The tensioner and idlers wear along with the belt. We inspect them and replace them when they're worn so your new belt lasts.

Water pump included

If your water pump is driven by the timing belt, we always quote replacing it in the same job so you don't pay that labor twice.

Common Causes

Why Timing Belts Fail

Every timing belt wears out eventually, but some fail well before their interval. These are the causes we see most often.

  1. Age and mileage

The rubber hardens and cracks over time, and the teeth wear with every mile. A belt can age out even on a car that isn't driven much.

  2. Heat and Ohio winters

Engine heat dries the belt out, and cold starts put stress on hardened rubber, which is when an old belt is most likely to let go.

  3. Oil leaks

A leaking cam or crank seal soaks the belt in oil, which softens the rubber and can make the teeth strip or slip.

  4. A failing water pump

On engines where the belt drives the water pump, a leaking or seized pump can ruin the belt or snap it outright.

  5. Worn tensioner or idlers

A weak tensioner lets the belt flap and jump teeth, and a bad idler bearing can seize and shred the belt.

  6. A skipped service

The most common cause of all is a belt that's simply overdue. Replacing it on schedule is the best protection for your engine.

Got Questions?

Timing Belt FAQs

Straight answers to what drivers ask about timing belt intervals, water pumps and what happens if a belt breaks.

How much does timing belt replacement cost?

It depends on your engine, since some timing belts are easy to reach and others sit behind engine mounts and several covers. Call or text 937-609-3554 with your year, make and model and we'll give you an upfront quote, with no surprises and no hidden fees. Because we don't pay rent on a traditional shop, our overhead is lower and those savings are passed on to you. If your engine has a belt-driven water pump, it's always included in your quote, and nothing is replaced until you approve it.

Do you replace timing belts at my home or work?

Timing belt replacement is a bigger job than most, so we do it at our offsite repair facility, where we have the lift and tools to do it right. We pick up your vehicle from your home or workplace and bring it back when it's done, so you still don't have to leave home or arrange a tow.

What does a timing belt do?

The timing belt is a toothed rubber belt inside the engine, behind a cover, that links the crankshaft to the camshafts. It keeps the valves opening and closing in perfect time with the pistons. If it slips or breaks, the engine stops running, and on many engines the valves and pistons can collide.

How often should a timing belt be replaced?

Most manufacturers call for a new timing belt somewhere between 60,000 and 105,000 miles, or after a set number of years, whichever comes first. The belt ages even if the car isn't driven much. Your owner's manual lists the interval for your engine, or call us with your year, make and model and we'll look it up for you.

What are the signs of a bad timing belt?

Timing belts often give little warning before they break, which is why replacing them on schedule matters. When there are signs, they include a ticking or whining noise from the front of the engine, oil leaking near the timing cover, a rough idle or misfire, or a check engine light. If the belt has already broken, the engine will crank but won't start.

What happens if my timing belt breaks?

The engine shuts off and won't restart. On what's called an interference engine, the pistons and valves share the same space, so a broken belt can bend valves and damage pistons, turning a scheduled repair into a major engine repair. If your belt breaks, don't keep trying to start the engine. Call or text us and we'll arrange pickup.

Should I replace the water pump with the timing belt?

On many engines the water pump is driven by the timing belt and sits behind the same covers, so replacing it at the same time saves you paying for that labor twice. A water pump that starts leaking after a new belt is installed can also ruin the new belt. If your engine's pump is driven by the timing belt, we always include it in your quote. The tensioner and idler pulleys should be checked too, since a worn one can make a new belt fail early.

Does my car have a timing belt or a timing chain?

It depends on the engine. Many newer engines use a metal timing chain that is designed to last much longer, while others still use a rubber timing belt with a set replacement interval. Call or text us with your year, make, model and engine size and we'll tell you which yours has and whether it's an interference engine. If you have a chain that's rattling or stretched, our engine repair service covers that.

Is a timing belt the same as a serpentine belt?

No. The serpentine belt is on the outside of the engine and runs accessories like the alternator, power steering and A/C. The timing belt is inside the engine behind a cover and keeps the engine's internal parts in time. They are replaced on different schedules. If your serpentine belt is squealing or cracked, our serpentine belt replacement service covers it.

How long does timing belt replacement take?

It's a bigger job than most belt work. Depending on the engine and whether the water pump is being replaced, it can take anywhere from a few hours to most of a day. We'll give you a realistic time estimate when we quote the job.

Is your work under warranty?

Yes. Any parts we supply and repairs we perform, including timing belts, tensioners, idler pulleys and water pumps, are backed by our 12-month / 12,000-mile warranty.

What areas do you serve for timing belt replacement?

We are based in Troy, Ohio and serve communities across the Miami Valley, including Troy, Tipp City, Pleasant Hill, Covington, West Milton, New Carlisle, Huber Heights, Vandalia, Fairborn, Beavercreek, Kettering, Centerville, Springboro. Not sure if you're covered? Call or text 937-609-3554 and we will tell you right away.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Payment is due when the job is complete.

Is Your Timing Belt Due?

Tell us your year, make, model and mileage, and we'll tell you whether your belt is due and what it will cost. We'll pick up your vehicle, and you approve the price before any work begins.
